Dark Matters:

Manveer’s development of the music was informed by a number of facts about the artist’s father: a family secret involving a child in Pakistan who died of neglect, the achievements of the family in the UK and the artist’s experience of life as an Asian person in the UK.  Manveer used ragas, which are intimately connected to emotions, as the basis for the composition work.

Dark Matters Project Event Flyer Front

Dark Matters was written for a project funded by Collide, Birmingham City Council.  Manveer composed 30 minutes of music for an interactive collage featuring images of the artist’s father.  Visitors were encouraged to touch the pictures and this action triggered the music. The collage was exhibited at The Custard Factory in 2006.
